With the creation of a makerspace in our library and the PDL initiative tablet roll out at my school, needless to say, It's been a busy year! I did try to take pictures to document the beginning of our space for Visions, Inventions and Voices at Aynor High School.
A 3D printer was ordered when we left for the summer and in August our space evolved. We had the perfect space, part of the studio inside the library that was seldom used.

A student and his dad, set up the makerbot mini printer the day before school started and making began in our space. On the first day of school, I introduced our students to tinkercad and they introduced me to creating, making and 3D printing.
We added our Robotics team EV3 Lego kits, a makey makey kit that our library coordinator gave us at our beginning of the year staff development day, 2 iMac desktops, and began gathering arts and crafts supplies.
I facilitated and the students invented, created, and made a mess! Did I mention a mess? Be prepared!
We have one rule RESPECT! I met with our core group of makers at the end of the school year and we worked on a few more rules for next year and what we need. I hope you will get an idea of what our space is all about by viewing our photo slideshow.
Looking ahead:
Tyler is working on a student makerspace website with a live webcam. A group of students are working on upcycling encyclopedias to make a charging station/bar in the media center. Several other projects are in the works. Brennen's goal is to finish a project next year!
Stay tuned for what I hope will be another exciting year of making at AHS. We realize that our makerspace will be in constant construction! That's what building is all about! I am excited about what we have started at Aynor High School. We are exposing our students to STEM/STEAM programs. With the opening of our makerspace, we are giving every student in our school an opportunity to create, invent and have a voice!
